Tonight I launched the Australian Medical Association (NSW) sun protection awareness campaign: #Sunscreenburnout. Spoke with Channel 10 national news highlighting the risks of sunscreen burnout by using expired or heat damaged sunscreen, as well as simply not applying enough.
Skin is damaged by both UVA and UVB light. UVB rays penetrate the top layers of the skin causing the immediate effect of acute sunburn and the longer term effect of skin cancer by directly damaging the DNA in your skin cells.

Topical corticosteroids are the gold standard treatment for atopic dermatitis and are extremely safe to use when applied correctly as directed by your dermatologist. Unfortunately a fear of using topical steroids leads to treatment failure. I gave an interview to Sky News following my recent publication discussing this issue in the Medical Journal of Australia.
